Meet FIDEL MAITHYA MUTINDA (MARK, the Last Alejandro Standing)
FIDEL plays the role of MARK in our ongoing show NEEMA, which airs on #CitizenTVKenya (Mon-Fri). MARK is a kind-hearted man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with a young girl running away from her family.
Ever wanted to get to know him beyond the screen?Well,we recently had a little chat with FIDEL and here is what he shared with us......
1)WHAT’S ONE MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE THAT FELT LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN A MOVIE? This was a movie. I was carjacked a month after getting my first car. I was invited to a friend’s birthday party at a local club in Langata. I wanted to celebrate with my friends but I’m a bit of an introvert so I didn’t carpool that day and went with my car so that I could dip quickly when I just felt like going home. I’m sure most of you can relate 😂 So I pretended I was on the phone, got into the car and left but I had to pass by a local take out joint for the requisite after-bash meal. Unbeknownst to me I was trailed and as soon as I got back to the vehicle after my purchase, I was surrounded by 4 individuals with pistols pointed my way telling me to cooperate. I was not about to do the opposite 😂 long story short, from 11pm to 5 am the next day I was in the boot of the carjackers pajero doing rounds with these guys while they were jacking other people. It was harrowing but eye opening. That night taught me a lot. Outside of being more philosophical about life, I became more vigilant
2)WHAT’S THAT ONE QUESTION YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ASKED ? How sudden was your meteoric rise?
Answer: it was not sudden and I’m still trying to get better and rise to levels unimaginable to me or my loved ones. It has been a long journey from 2003 to now. Getting rejected at almost every audition, feeling dejected but at the same time building resilience which is serving me well to date. That thing they say nothing good comes easy, is unfortunately or fortunately true, depending on how you want to look at it

3)WHAT’S ONE THING YOU ALWAYS DO BEFORE STEPPING IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA THAT FANS DON’T KNOW ABOUT
The one thing I always do before the camera starts rolling when on set? 😂 this is going to tickle you I guess 😆 I Dont know if most of you do this….when you’re stealing a Chapo in the kitchen or a piece of a meal before the whole meal is ready and you start dancing on the spot when taking a bite, well I sing a song that is in my head at the moment before the director calls for action. Sometimes it’s a song or a short prayer for everything to work out in that moment for everyone involved
4)WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLE AND ON WHICH PLATFORM? WHAT IMPACT DOES SOCIAL MEDIA HAS ON YOUR CAREER? What was my first social media handle? Well it was and still is fidelmaithya. The next answer will definitely age me 😂 it was on MySpace…… I’m sure most of you are not familiar with it but being on MySpace back in ‘03 was the coolest thing ever. At least I thought so 😂
How is social media important for an artist? I think there’s positives and negatives in everything but for me I think social media is integral to every artist. The thing about it is that it brings the artist closer to their audience. They watch you everyday on tv but Social Media let’s them in, albeit in a limited way, depending on what you want to share, into your life and shows them a bit of your personality and not the character’s personality that they see you play everyday on tv. It’s also entertaining and educational. We all need some of that in life, we always love to be entertained and there’s no limit to what you can learn no matter what stage in life you’re in.
5)WHAT’S ONE WEIRD SUPERSTITIONOR BELIEF YOU HAVE THAT YOU JUST CAN’T SHAKE IT OFF?
Scratching my palm will lead to a cash injection from somewhere 😂
