Sultana
Cast & Crew
Sultana tells the heartbreaking and inspiring story of a young woman — Sultana, played by Mwanaasha Johari — who was born into a wealthy family but switched at birth with a boy because her father desperately wanted a male heir.
From birth, she is declared dead and presumed lost; instead, she is secretly raised by a midwife in poverty, growing up blind and marginalized.
Despite her blindness and the harsh circumstances — including neglect, stigma, poverty, and abandonment — Sultana remains resilient. Her journey is one of survival, courage, and dignity, as she fights for recognition, respect, and a rightful place in a world that tried to erase her.
As the story develops, Sultana discovers the truth about her birth and identity. She struggles with the emotional and social fallout of family betrayal, injustice, and societal prejudice. Along the way, she falls in love with Jabali Junior — the boy she was switched with at birth —, and this romance becomes a source of hope, conflict, and drama, as loyalties are tested and secrets threatened.
Through suffering, love, and relentless endurance, Sultana seeks justice, acceptance, and a chance to rise above the fate handed to her — proving that true worth isn’t defined by birth or disability. The series explores themes of identity, gender expectations, family secrets, social inequality, and the resilience of the human spirit.
